Next Up: Down Under
G’day from the Land Down Under! It’s been ages since I’ve been in an English-speaking country, and it’s good to be on Tanya’s home turf – hopefully that Sheila will finally know what she’s doing. Her sister Jodie picked us up from the Brissy airport, and we spent the night at her house. The following morning Dad came bright and early to drive us to their home on the Sunshine Coast, an area that didn’t live up to its name yesterday – it was pissing down all avy.
We were spewing that the weather wasn’t good as gold, but other than that the day was a beaut. At Tanya’s old folks’ house, I met her Mum, her brother Shane, and his 3 little tuckers. I felt like rubbish when Juliet (3-years old) started hysterically crying after she saw me, but they assured me she’s like that with all guys and she came around in no time (a piece of chewy did the trick). I grabbed a bikkie to hold me over ‘til lunch while the young ones went wee wees in the dunny. Then we were off to The Australia Zoo, home of the one and only Crocodile Hunter.
Despite the rain, there were heaps of animals out and about. We saw elephants, tigers, wombats, Tasmanian devils, and all the others, but the highlights were feeding the roos, petting the koalas, and watching the croc show. The Croc Hunter is one of Tanya’s old mates, but that bloke wasn’t around yesterday. And did you know that 9 out of the 10 deadliest snakes are found in Australia – crikey!
I was fairly nackered after a big day at the zoo, so it was nice to relax with a few cold stubbys in the evening.
We reckon today will be a ripper, so we’re about to grab some brekkie and then throw on our togs, slap on our sunnies, and slip on our thongs. Catch ya!

January 20th, 2006 at 3:04 pmStrewth Charlie, you can spin a bonza yarn when you cop a squat for a few mos and learn some of the lingo mate. What a ripper! I’m stoked to hear you had a bonza walkabout in Fiji. The Lands DownUnder shouldn’t be anything to whinge about either. Watch out for old Glennie though. He’s ridgy-didge but madder than a cut snake and will have you listening to his yabber until your grinning like a shot fox. If he asks you to tell a few porky pies to the postie or the milko, give it a whirl but just make sure you don’t end up looking like a mug! Be sure to have a XXXX for me and we’ll look forward to taking a squizz at your next……thingo
