Afrecap
It was sad to leave Jeffreys Bay this morning - the small beach town world-renowned for its surf break, dominated by Quiksilver and Billabong. But places to go, people to see. We drove to Port Elizabeth, often considered the end of the Garden Route, and flew to Johannesburg. We fly to Nairobi at midnight, and then to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania a few hours later. It’s too bad Tanya and I haven’t been doing anything in Africa:
11/4 Flew from Bangkok to Dubai
11/5 Flew from Dubai to Joburg, met up with Tanya and Jen
11/6 Apartheid Museum and Soweto Jazz Fest
11/7 Hot air balloon ride, said bye to Jen
11/8 – 11/11 Kruger National Park
11/12 Flew from Joburg to Livingstone, Zambia
11/13 Crossed over to Zimbabwe for the Lion Encounter and Vic Falls
11/14 River cruise in Botswana
11/15 White water rafting on the Zambezi
11/16 Microlight over Zambia, flew from Livingstone to Joburg to Capetown
11/17 World’s highest abseil off of Table Mountain
11/18 Drove to The Cape of Good Hope, stopping to see the penguins at Boulders Beach
11/19 Began Garden Route drive – wine tasting and cheetah encounter in Stellenbosch, spent the night in Hermanus
11/20 Shark diving, spent the night in Mossel Bay
11/21 Highgate Ostrich Farm, spent the night in Knysna
11/22 World’s highest bungy jump (twice), spent the night in Jeffreys Bay
11/23 Flew from Port Elizabeth to Joburg
11/24 Fly from Joburg to Nairobi to Kilimanjaro

Holiday greetings from Medio Drive. Happily, we’ll be together again with New England, Denver and California branches of the clan, but keenly missing the absentee New Yorkers and The Wanderer. Rest assured we’ll toast you in absentia. Wouldn’t surprise me if collectively we also eat what would have been your share of the goodies along with our own!
Based on mutterings heard around the kitchen, it appears the primary angst currently felt among the family no longer relates to the possibiity of your being eaten by a Great White Shark, or being zipped open by an irate ostrich, or, grisly thought, to the chilling concern your bungee harness might slip. Hey, we know you’ve survived those. What really concerns us today is the risk that whoever is requested to perform tomorrow may not do an adequate job of carvng the turkey!
On that note, cheerful greetings and much love from Nonnie and Papa (and, no question, if they were here to confirm the authorization, Rick, Bun, Becs, Sarah, Jeff B, Susan and Ben)
November 23rd, 2005 at 8:03 pmHey BUBS, good to hear from you this morning. Hope you both make it to the top of the mountain (whats the bet Charlie dragged/carried you up there). Looking forward to having you home again especially for xmas, it will just be like old times with all 3 children at home with mum and dad (In his Santa hat and boxers). Travel safe for the rest of your stay in Africa, see you 16/12, if not at airport curl up on a seat and someone will be there eventually. (You could’ve got a later flight!!!) Missing you heaps love Chez (Tanya’s mum for those people that don’t know). XOXOXOXOX Big sis here as well (I’m sure you would’ve realised Tanya cause Chezza knows nothing about computers). I had the day off today but didn’t do anything exciting like you two, sounds like you had another day full of fun once again you BITCH!!! Shane wants you to come home for the 9/12 so you can play in the touch final (we actually have to make it first). So if you can that would be great, but if you are too busy enjoying yourself we understand (he won’t, but we do). Mum got the poops about me writing the message about not knowing anything about computers, she wants people to think she is intelligent!!!! gotta go love you heaps Jodie
November 23rd, 2005 at 9:32 pmCharlie, Grandma and Jim want to wish you a happy Thanksgiving. Are there any turkeys in Africa? We liked your pictures from Africa with all the animals. They seemed to like you. The bungee jumping story scared your grandmother. We look forward to your further adventures. Have fun. Bye for now.
